The Science

The evidence, graded honestly

Most hair brands show you a lab coat and hope you stop reading. We'd rather show you the actual studies — including where the evidence is strong, where it's promising, and what we don't claim. Your skepticism is welcome here. You've earned it.

First: what actually happens to hair in the hormonal shift

Every strand on your head cycles through a growth phase (anagen, 2–8 years), a resting phase, and a shedding phase — then starts again. Estrogen is one of the signals that holds follicles in the growth phase. As estrogen declines through perimenopause and beyond, three things happen in sequence[1]:

  • The growth phase shortens. More follicles rest and shed at the same time — that's the extra hair in the drain.
  • DHT gains relative ground. With less estrogen to counterbalance it, this androgen gradually miniaturizes sensitive follicles, most visibly along the part and crown.
  • Regrowth returns finer. Each cycle through a miniaturized follicle produces a thinner strand — which is why the part line widens before anything else looks different.

This is why generic thickening shampoo disappoints: it treats the strand, not the cycle. Our protocol targets the three mechanisms above.

The Density Serum — active by active

Baicapil™  Strongest evidence in the formula

A complex of Scutellaria baicalensis (skullcap), soy sprout, and wheat sprout extracts. In a 6-month, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 60 volunteers, Baicapil™ showed a 22% increase in hair density and 34% fewer follicles stuck in the shedding phase versus placebo[2]. Its proposed mechanism is upregulation of the growth factors (IGF-1, VEGF) that keep follicles in anagen. Honest footnote: this study was run by the ingredient's manufacturer and hasn't been independently replicated — which is true of nearly every cosmetic active on the market, but you deserve to know it.

Saw palmetto  Randomized controlled trial

The best-studied botanical for DHT. It inhibits 5α-reductase — the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT — reducing DHT roughly 30–40%[3]. A 16-week randomized, placebo-controlled trial of standardized saw palmetto (oral and topical) found a 22% reduction in hair fall and improved density versus placebo[4]. Caveat we won't hide: most saw palmetto research was done in men; evidence in women is thinner, though the DHT mechanism it targets is the same one at work in female-pattern thinning.

Growth-factor peptides  Mechanism-level evidence

Biomimetic peptides (sh-Oligopeptide-2, sh-Polypeptide-1, sh-Polypeptide-9 and others) modeled on IGF-1, bFGF, and VEGF — the signaling molecules healthy follicles use to sustain their growth phase. The biology is well characterized; large independent trials of topical peptides at cosmetic concentrations don't exist yet. We grade this "promising," not "proven," and that's exactly how you should read it.

Rosemary & gentle scalp exfoliants  Supporting cast

A 6-month randomized trial of 100 people found rosemary oil matched 2% minoxidil for hair count in androgenetic alopecia[5]. Our serum uses rosemary extract in a supporting role alongside lactic acid and gluconolactone, which keep follicle openings clear so actives can reach them.

The Daily Gummies — feeding the machine

New hair is built from raw material, and the hormonal shift is precisely when appetite, absorption, and nutrient priorities change. The gummies are nutritional support — the floor under the serum's work: 6,000 mcg biotin plus the full B-vitamin line (B6, B12, folate, pantothenic acid) that keratin production depends on; zinc and iodine, minerals follicle and thyroid function lean on[6]; and PABA, a B-family compound with a long history in hair research. Honest footnote again: biotin supplementation shows its clearest benefits in people with low levels[6] — we include it at a meaningful dose as insurance, not as a miracle, and anyone promising you a miracle from a gummy alone is selling you one.

What we don't claim

  • We are not a drug. Minoxidil and finasteride have larger effects and larger side-effect profiles; that's a conversation for your doctor, and our ritual works alongside either.
  • We are not hormone therapy and won't change your hormone levels.
  • We cannot regrow a follicle that's been dormant for years. What the evidence supports: reduced shedding and fuller-looking density over full hair cycles.
  • Nothing works in three washes. Hair moves in ~90-day cycles; we ask for one full cycle before you judge us — photos on day one, verdict on day ninety.
